Portrait of Patrick ThieffryPatrick THIEFFRY is an independent arbitrator, mainly in environmental, energy, construction and infrastructure matters. A member of the Paris and New York Bars, he practiced international business law for four decades, and has a wide experience of international transactions and transnational disputes. He acted as Counsel, Sole Arbitrator and President of Arbitral Tribunals since the 1980’s in the EU, the US and the Middle East.

He served as Co-chair of the ICC Task Force on Arbitration of Climate Change-related Disputes and as Head of the ICC Working Group on the Global Pact for the Environment.

He has been teaching environmental law at the Sorbonne School of Law since 1996 where he served as Associate Professor from 2008 to 2019. He authored a Handbook of European Environmental Law (Bruylant, 2018, 402 pages), a Traité de droit européen de l’environnement et du climat (Bruylant, 4th ed. 2020, 1723 pages), a Manuel de droit de l’environnement de l’Union européenne (Bruylant, 2nd ed., 2017, 396 pages) as well as other law books and many articles on international business law, environmental and climate law.

Patrick THIEFFRY holds degrees in International Economics and in International Private and Business Law, he practiced in the United States for five years and he presented a PhD thesis on the Instruments of Environmental Law.
